The Best Beaches in Curaçao: Ranked Honest.
Thirty-five beaches. Some you walk to, some you drive to, one is only ours — and the day you go matters as much as the beach.

You want to know the best beaches in Curaçao. Every guide hands you a list of thirty-five names, calls each one “stunning,” and helps you choose between none of them.
We live here. We'll rank them honest — the ones worth the drive, the ones to skip unless they're on your way, and the one thing that decides your beach day more than the beach does. We even built a whole page just for the beaches we love most — this is the ranked, no-flattery version. Fair?
The Honest Answer First
There is no single best beach in Curaçao. The island is a string of small coves tucked between cliffs, and the “best” one depends on whether you want calm water, snorkeling, shade, a beach bar, or no one else at all.
So the honest split isn't a ranking of one to thirty-five. It's two piles: worth the drive and skip unless it's on the way. And sitting over both piles is the thing nobody puts on the list — timing. The same cove can be empty on a Tuesday and somebody's shore excursion on a Thursday. Timing beats everything. More on that below, because it's the part that actually decides whether the water is yours.
The Beaches Worth the Drive
Cas Abao. The safe all-rounder, and the one we'd send a first-timer to. Soft sand, calm clear water, real shade, loungers, and a bar — there's a small entrance fee and it's worth every cent. If you only get one west-end beach, make it this.
Grote Knip (Playa Kenepa Grandi). The postcard. Bright turquoise water against white cliffs, the shot every Curaçao photo is secretly of. Stunning — and exactly why it fills fastest on cruise days. Worth it early, worth skipping when the ships are in.
Playa Kenepa Chiki (Klein Knip). Grote Knip's smaller, quieter sister, a two-minute drive away. Same water, fewer people, better snorkeling off the rocks. When the big Knip is crowded, this is the move.
Playa Lagun. The snorkeler's beach. A small, sheltered cove between two cliffs with calm water, sea turtles, and reef you can reach from the sand. Small, so it fills — go early and go for the water, not the lounging.
Klein Curaçao. Not a beach you drive to — a boat-only sandbar island off the southeast coast, blinding white sand and water like a screensaver. It's a full day and it's the best beach day on offer. Do it right, on the right boat: the private boat day.
Jan Thiel. The easy one. A cluster of beach clubs ten minutes from town — calm water, restaurants, loungers, an actual day you don't have to plan. Not the most dramatic beach on the island, but the most effortless, and sometimes that's the verdict you want.
The Skip-Unless-It's-On-The-Way List
Nothing here is bad. But a few beaches get sold harder than they earn, so manage your expectations.
Mambo Beach. Lively, central, and very touristy — a boardwalk of bars, shops, and music near the aquarium. Perfect if you want a drink, a DJ, and people to watch. Wrong if you came for a quiet swim. Fine for some, not for quiet-seekers — know which one you are before you park.
The photogenic coves on a cruise day. Grote Knip and Cas Abao are genuinely worth it — until three thousand day-trippers arrive at once. On a big-ship day, the prettiest beach becomes the most crowded one. Skip it that day, not forever.
The Catch Nobody Puts on the List
Here's the part that matters more than the ranking. On a lot of days, cruise ships dock in Willemstad and empty thousands of day-trippers onto the island's most photogenic beaches for a few hours. Show up at the wrong cove on the wrong day, and the water you drove forty minutes for belongs to a shore excursion.
So the real question isn't only which beach. It's who's making sure my beach day lands on the good days and not the cruise days? On a normal booking, the answer is nobody. You find out at the beach.
That's the gap. That's where most beach days quietly leak.

A clean list. Now here's the beach that isn't on it.
One Is Only Ours
There's a cove you won't find on a ranked list, because you can't drive to it. You reach it on the boat day — a quiet stretch of water off the coast where the only people in the frame are the ones you came with. No entrance fee, no shore excursion, no parking lot. Just the island doing the thing it does best when nobody's watching.
The treasure is out there. Most visitors never see it, because no guide can hand you a beach that isn't on the map. We can, because we live here and we know which water is empty on which day.
There's a Third Option Most People Never See
When you're planning beach days in Curaçao, you think you have two choices. You actually have three.
01 / The Hotel. A pool you share with two hundred strangers and a concierge who hands you the same printed map as everyone else. The cruise-day beach is in your top recommendation.
02 / The Rental. A car you rent yourself, a Google search at breakfast, and a forty-minute drive to a cove that turns out to be packed. You find out at the beach.
03 / The Private Resort. Someone who lives here reads the cruise calendar before you arrive, and points your beach days at the empty water — the quiet cove on a Tuesday, the boat day on the right morning, the snorkel beach before the crowd. The mental load of getting it right — gone.
That third one is us, in Curaçao. We don't hand you a list of thirty-five beaches and wish you luck. We read the cruise calendar so your beach day lands when the water belongs to you. We know which cove is empty on a Tuesday and which boat reaches the cove that isn't on the map. That's the Dushi Week.
700+ stays. A 4.99 average rating. We don't get reviewed — we get adopted. The beaches were always going to be beautiful. The question was whether the right one would be empty when you got there.
The island has thirty-five beaches. The week is what you make it — or what we make it, poko poko, while you get in the water. And if you're still deciding when to come, that's its own honest guide: the best time to visit Curaçao.
Vacation is holy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best beach in Curaçao?
There's no single best one. For the calm, clear all-rounder with shade and a bar, Cas Abao is the safe pick. For the postcard shot, Grote Knip. For snorkeling, Playa Lagun. And the most unforgettable beach day isn't one you drive to — it's a boat day to Klein Curaçao or a private cove. The bigger factor is timing: the day you go decides whether the water is yours.
Which Curaçao beaches should I skip?
None are truly bad, but manage expectations. Mambo Beach is lively and touristy — great for bars and people-watching, wrong for a quiet swim. And the most photogenic coves, like Grote Knip and Cas Abao, are worth skipping when big cruise ships are in, because they fill fast. The honest rule is which day to avoid, not which beach.
Are the beaches in Curaçao free?
Many are — Grote Knip, Playa Kenepa Chiki, and Playa Lagun cost nothing to enter. A few of the best-kept beaches, like Cas Abao and the Jan Thiel beach clubs, charge a small entrance or parking fee that buys you cleaner facilities, loungers, and a bar. It's a modest fee, not a resort gate.
What's the best beach for snorkeling in Curaçao?
Playa Lagun is the local favorite — a small, sheltered cove with calm water, sea turtles, and reef you can reach from the sand. Cas Abao and Playa Kenepa Chiki are also excellent. For the best underwater day of all, a boat day to Klein Curaçao puts you in water most beaches can't touch.
Why do Curaçao beaches get crowded some days?
Cruise ships. On days when big ships dock in Willemstad, thousands of day-trippers head to the most photogenic beaches for a few hours, and the prettiest coves fill fast. The same beach can be empty on a Tuesday and packed on a Thursday — which is why reading the cruise calendar in advance is the whole game.
